My GetLoud Personal Page
On September 29, 2018, our team is joining an army: 3000+ SickKids supporters rallying together at a new fundraising event for SickKids, GetLoud. GetLoud is a 5km walk through the streets of Toronto, capped by a festival celebration at Fort York. It’s families, friends, colleagues, and supporters rallying for SickKids. We have once again set our team fundraising goal at $20,000 for 2018. Our amazing team has raised over $34,000 in the last 2 years and we hope to grow our team and raise more funds for the hospital that saved our Nolan.
Nolan was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is critically underdeveloped. Nolan’s condition required open heart surgery within a few days of being born, however, an infection led to a delay in surgery. After a week on antibiotics waiting for the infection to clear, Nolan was showing signs of distress and needed immediate open heart surgery at 11 days old to stabilize his blood flow. It was discovered that part of Nolan's aorta was critically underdeveloped as well, a combination that has never before been documented. Surgery was no longer viable and a heart transplant became his only option for survival.
Nolan was listed for transplant when he was just 5 weeks old and received his new heart 4 weeks later. Recovery went well, and Nolan finally came home after spending 4 months at SickKids. He is now a strong, happy and busy 4-year-old who amazes us every day! Nolan is our inspiration for fundraising and walking in support of SickKids. It is our way of ensuring that every child who enters the doors of SickKids has the best possible chance of living a healthy and happy life. We are forever grateful to SickKids and the amazing team of people who fought for Nolan and supported our family. We would not be able to tell Nolan's story without them.
Our family and friends have always been an incredible support for us and we welcome anyone who wishes to join our team and walk with us on September 29th! Or you can simply donate to a cause that continues to change the outcome for children and their families just as SickKids has done for our family.
SickKids has always been on the front lines in the fight for children’s health. But the clinical facilities at SickKids are close to 70 years old. Today, one of the biggest battles at SickKids is against the limits of an old building. Help us unleash the full potential of SickKids by donating online – it’s safe, secure and easy. Any amount you give today will help us reach our fundraising goal.
Thank you for always supporting us!
