Make a Sick Kids Miracle Happen
On September 28, 2019, I’m joining an army: 3000+ SickKids supporters rallying together at a new fundraising event for SickKids, GetLoud. $2.5 million is our collective fundraising goal. We’re building a new SickKids, and it’s going to take all of us.
Some things are meant to change, and SickKids is one of those things. SickKids is in need of a new hospital, and that will take lots of donations. But if any hospital deserves all this money, it’s SickKids. Throughout my childhood I’ve had more needles than most people do in a lifetime. I suffer from a rare neuro-inflammatory disease. The steps to this diagnosis were a series of MRIs, spinal taps and hospital visits. When I was only seven years old I went through extreme headaches and vomiting from pain followed by countless diagnoses ranging from a brain tumour to Lupus. Even London’s great children’s hospital wasn’t enough to solve my mysterious case. With pounding pain I was transferred to SickKids hospital, where I was cared for by my amazing and supportive Dr. Anne Yeh, a specialist in my sort of disease. She found that my brain swelling was the act of my immune system attacking my brain. A treatment of Methylprednisolone was ordered to stop the attack, followed by a rituximab infusions to prevent future attacks - I’ve felt better ever since. Though my illness brings us back to Toronto a few times a year, we thank all the doctors and nurses who helped and continue to help with my condition. For this reason we donate to this amazing hospital. My family and I encourage you to donate to these children who need it most. A big thank you to everyone who have already donated, and another thank you for supporting my campaign.
SickKids has always been on the front lines in the fight for children’s health. But the clinical facilities at SickKids are close to 70 years old. Today, one of the biggest battles at SickKids is against the limits of an old building.
Help me unleash the full potential of SickKids by donating online – it’s safe, secure and easy. Any amount you give today will help me reach my fundraising goal.
Let’s rally, march, and celebrate. When we unite in the fight against limits at SickKids, we’re unstoppable.
