In September 2017, Jack was asked to take part in the making of SickKids' commercial which launched their current capital campaign. He was asked because he is a SickKids' kid; having survived cancer as an infant thanks to the hospital's excellence and care.
Taking part in the campaign was incredibly powerful and validating for Jack. It gave him a way to feel proud of all that he has been through - to feel strong instead of weak and special instead of unlucky.
As the commercial goes, the kids are literally building the new hospital themselves and I swear, Jack was then inspired and determined to raise the 1.3 billion dollars single handedly. "Its for SickKids after all, how could anyone say no!", he always says. I always say, we are so lucky to have SickKids in our city. As amazing as they are today, and they are amazing, it is not good enough for them. They are striving to be better. To have more breakthroughs and stronger outcomes - to make possible tomorrow what is impossible today.
SickKids saved us and I am grateful everyday to be a SickKids family. I am whole today because we are a SickKids family. I am so proud to have Jack's beautiful face and his extraordinary spirit representing SickKids and contributing to creating the next chapter of SickKids’ excellence.
Please join us in supporting this event by giving and walking with us in September!
